About us
EXODUS is a network of persons and associations in contact with asylum seekers and other foreigners held in airports and transit zones in Europe, grouping chaplains, social workers and legal assistants.
OBJECTIVES
- Ensure high quality legal representation, social assistance and spiritual support at airports and transit zones to asylum seekers, inadmitted persons and expulsees.
- Work towards ensuring a fair and humane procedure for asylum seekers and inadmitted passengers across European airports.
- Monitor legality and respect for human rights in the execution of returns and deportations.
ACTION
- Exchange information between those present at European airports.
- Identify good and bad practices at airports.
- Report and condemn violations and excesses at a European level.
- Establish and maintain contact with European Institutions (Council of Europe, European Union) and international institutions (UNHCR, IOM, International Civil Aviation Organisation) etc.
- Establish and maintain contact with professional organisations (IATA, airline companies, airline trade unions) etc.
- Establish and maintain contact with church organisations, NGOs active in the field of deportations and returns and European refugee organisations etc.
- Set up and maintain a reciprocal alerting and support network, especially in the case of transfers and returns of passengers between European airports.
MEANS
- Maintain contact via a closed internet discussion and information sharing group.
- Set up a web page to provide access and publicise information about and relevant to EXODUS activities.
- General Assembly each year at a revolving location; conference programme, working groups, guest speakers.
- Committee to ensure the progression of the network meeting regularly, with a view to setting up a permanent secretariat responsible for maintaining contact among members and with institutions, fundraising and promotion of the network.
